A former award winning member of the Colored Pencil Society of America, Richard's photo-realistic style of creating life-like artwork from photographs has earned him the respect and admiration of his peers. His skillful blend of a variety of different types of color pencil, over an under painting of marker pen color, produces realistic detail approaching almost three-dimensional quality. In addition to several color pencil publications and instructional videos, Richard's technique has most recently appeared in Sandra Angelo's beautifully compiled publication, "Exploring Colored Pencil;" a collection of art works and techniques from some of the finest color pencil artists in the United States.

An alumnus of The Hill School-'48, and Yale University-'52, Richard spent the thirty-nine years of his professional career in nuclear-related engineering design, both Naval and Commercial, where remnants of his creative designs and artwork still exist.

Now retired, Richard has dedicated himself to fulfilling his childhood dream, of becoming a recognized artist, writer and composer of music.

Nothing portrays the true beauty of a loved one or the world we live in more dramatically than the artwork created by the skillful hands and discerning eyes of an artist. Artists were the first historians known to man. They are responsible for the preservation of all of our primitive and pre-recorded history.

Their drawings and paintings of people, events and the wonder of nature hang in galleries and homes all over the world for discriminating people to view and enjoy. They make us happy, sometimes sad and most always reflective.

What better gift for someone you care about than to give a photo-realistic reproduction of an oil or colored pencil work of art created by Richard K. Thompson. Richard is a published, award-winning California artist who specializes in developing drawings and paintings from photographs in a variety of different categories, including the following:

Portraits - Landscapes - Still Life
Animals - Artistic Nudes - Commissions
